One

One,
empty One, lonely One
a skinny shadow in a copper sun

One, slim and narrow, a twig without its tree
One remains a silhouette as far as eye can see

Rebel One, alone and proud, single but content
a number with much dignity who's head cannot be bent

One will sleep with the unlovely and survive it
One will remain one and not deny it

One will live among the giants and be seen
One will play along the river in my dream

Weighed with indecision, greys of different shades
One will suffer loneliness, and quiet empty days

And because it will not waver, because it will not bend
One, an elegant beginning, has become a lonely end.
