Silent Sea

Silent sea
Dark and frothing
giant waves
the driftwood tossing

Just staying afloat
head above water
kicking your legs
wondering why you bother

When a wave crashes down
dipping you deep below the surface
striving upward for air
wondering what's the purpose

As your head breaks out
and fills your lungs with air
you see something ashore
you believe can't be there

Deny its existence
as much as you might
hard to ignore
it's bright burning light

But you stubbornly refuse
at accept it's aid
you can handle this yourself
sleep in the bed you made

For you staunchly believe
that the light can't exist
so you close your minds eye
and bathe it in mist

And perhaps someday
you will reach the shore
without the light's help
you've done so much more!

...but paid in the trial: your happiness,
getting only grief in change
ignoring the light
Caused so many pains

but ignore it you will
and carry on in your swim
because you have to deny
the existence of Him.
