Wind and Cloud

Wind is calling for Cloud
She wants to play
She calls like a lover
her breath against my skin is cold
but intense in anticipation
Cloud comes
and together they are a miserable pair
Wind's voice howls and shrieks
crying like a lost child
Cloud rumbles as Wind pushes him across the horizon
and cries rainy tears as she chases him from the sky
Now Cloud is gone and Wind is lonely
She goes tearing after him
like a demon in the wake of a thousand grey battleships
or a lover left alone in the night

By that time that Sun has woken
his tidy bed, somewhere in the west
broken by Wind and Cloud's unrest
But their quarreling has stopped
Cloud's tears have pooled in Earth's belly
forming puddles that reflect empty Sky and grey Cloud's absence
The Trees rustle quietly to themselves
nosy neighbors brushed here and there by Wind's last quiet whisper
on her way to other places
