Tea too hot to drink
on a night too long for words
my head is dizzy as a pinball
my throat is full of ashes
and my stomach is empty of everything.
but
the bread butter and jam are nice
cool in my mouth
after the hot hot tea
like sweet strawberries on sweltering august afternoons
