Replacing You
If I could I would cross out the sky
pop the sun with a silver pin
watch it burst like a golden bubble
in fire and pain
then watch the world go black
Then in that darkness I would rob the mountains of silver and gold
leave them lying hollow and breathless
a dying horizon
I would rob the ground of diamonds and oil
and the sea of all it's pearls
leaving them hungry and bitter
I would take the stars from the very sky
blinding her forever
without hesitation or regret
I would hammer out the gold
until it was thin and soft enough for your skin
I would melt down the silver, mix it with the oil
and give you hair
I would carve the pearls into your straight white teeth
pour the stars into your face and give you eyes
put the diamonds where your heart should be
kiss your golden lips, blow breath into your ivory lungs then cut my wrist and fill you up with ruby blood and set your diamond heart to beating
I want to fill the hole that you have left here
the absence of you
Pour in love and blood and make you real again
But I cannot
For all the treasures of the earth will not replace you
bring you back, or help me forget that you were real
There is only wine to replace the blood
time to make me blind and help me to forget
the place where you once stood
