Prayers and Rain
Sitting in smoke
I watch the moon
the moon watches me
eating salty food from dirty plates
listening to beautiful music
thinking light thoughts of heavy people
fingering love through darkness and distance
worrying it with the dirty hands of a nervous catholic
There's crying in the corner
and crying on the stairs
The world is drowning in its tears
and God is dead
and isn't listening
Our mouths have fallen silent on our faces
shadows remain where lips once tread
Prayers fall from the sky like surly raindrops
lifeless and grey, a heavy spring rain
Life is being a bitch again
a mean whore with broken nails and a hoarse voice
shouting at us even in our sleep
cursing us in our dreams
so that we wake with black eyes and black thoughts
black souls dripping coal and shadows as we walk
bathing ourselves in prayers and rain
