Fast Cars
Two fast-cars passed me as I was walking home
they were looking for room to race amongst the compact cars that cluttered up their path
the ones that move and look like snails
They were looking for spaces in between the economy class dreams that barred their way
the ones that stack up like rainclouds during rush hour
I passed them some time later, stuck in traffic
The two of them; trapped
between a ford escort and an empty white taxi
The two fast-cars growled impatiently
gunning their engines occasionally
in order to remind the rest of the road that they were fast-cars
and didn't belong in traffic;
They filled the air with their noise and exhaust
but both died away quickly in the rain
The snail drivers and idle dreamers seemed unimpressed
they just stretched and yawned
waiting for the light to change
When it did, the snails and dreamers crept slowly ahead
and the two fast cars crawled slowly ahead behind them
moving meekly as mice among the snails
