Dreams

Two lovers were dove-cuddled on the backest seat of the bus
two makes the cold less cold
and the ride less long

I slept through all the action tonight
through the screamingly drunk
the suddenly stoned
and the quiet queries made by my friends.

I was wrapped up in the down-soft dreams
of rams horns unrolling
and silhouetted unicorns
of blue skies and home
and happy hands to hold
of nine cats dancing in milk-white moonlight
and a thimble full of magic on a Spanish summer night.

Now I am awake
as middle-night becomes after-night
who shrugs and blinks and is suddenly before-morning
and before long Sun will come around
hidden safely behind her grey gown of thick muslin clouds and soft winter sky.
I will drift off into morning's dusty dreams
Sailing a ship named Sleep
to see Moon's seven seas
and a thousand stars beside.

There, all my thoughts will pinwheel
past the dreaming-room in my mind
the dove-cuddled and the grey gowned
rams horns and unicorns
nine cats with nine hats
and Sun, Moon, and Stars
will all gather for the ball
that I'm holding for them all
in the dreaming-room just behind my eyes.
