Winter Sun

Pale, like a winter sun
like December's dawn
Quiet, like snowflakes falling
like whispers in the dark

I want to touch you
to reach past the distance that separates us
past the dark and the stars to your cool quiet beauty
to your sadness that has no words
but cries like a dove in morning
I want to see your secret smile
to reach you
to touch you
to tell you all of this

But my mouth is no good anymore
it is stopped up by fear and loneliness
and all the little things that bar the way for honesty
My eyes would tell you everything if they could
but you cannot seem to hear the words that they pour out
into your always blue forever-eyes

So my hand will have to do
scrawling out this second-rate love note
at too-late in the morning
all the while imagining that you could be mine for a moment
some quiet instant where we two lay tied up in each other
light hearts and heavy breath
all under moon's white eye
