Hurricane's Eye
This sudden peace
,hurricane's eye,
is a pleasant, unexpected change
from the heavy wind and chaos
we lived in a moment before
from the bruises and black tattoos
on the skin we lived in a moment before
Out knot became untangled
more easily than I had imagined it could
now there is one left before I consider myself free
the cruelest knot to cut
the one she asked me not to cut
But I must force myself and force my hand
if I am to be free of these petty strings that bind my wings
this gravity of wire and twine that ties me to the ground
I have been tumbled and tangled in this little-love too long
it has grown over me like tombstone roses
now I'm tired of their color
and it is time to be free
