Coltrane
Coltrane played like an undiscovered God,
a new emotion, or some force of nature
unleashed in dark rooms and smoky clubs.
His voice, piped through a golden horn,
and taken to the world on wings named Jazz,
was discovered like some humble giant,
too big to hide its greatness any longer.
I listen to him tonight,
unmanned and outgunned by this giant
who speaks not a single word,
but says more in nuance and notes
than I could convey in a thousand years of verse.
Play on John, play on.
