Tonight there is nothing in darkness but tears.
Shadows in shadows, you are hiding from the light.
But you cannot hide forever.
Whatever demons you are fighting,
whatever nightmares you dread
will wait for you.
They are patient like dogs for their masters.

Past tears, past sadness
past the great dark loneliness that engulfs you
there will be rest for your bones,
drink for your throat,
and love for your soul.
Out of this darkness your sun will rise,
orange and red like a rusty apple
rolling slowly over the horizon
to fill the sky with light.
When it does you will find the smile
that you mislaid the night before.
When you put it on, it will fit like new
erasing all the tears and tragedy
as if they were no more than a dream
that clung to you as you woke.

This will all end,
this sadness, this confusion,
and these tears.
But for the moment,
for this painful moment,
be strong
and know that we will be there
